Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a website hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the possibilities are limited because you'll not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They are all actions which are performed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Web Hosting
SSH access could be permitted with a click from the Hepsia Control Panel if the web hosting plan that you have picked offers this feature as standard. If not, you may include it from the Add Services/Upgrades section of your CP and enable it immediately. You will find all the details you need in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the host, the port number and the username which you have to use, as well as in depth Help articles where we have listed all the commands that you can use inside the account and examples of the syntax which you have use. The SSH password could be changed from the very same section at any time with a couple of mouse clicks. As long as SSH access is enabled, you'll also be able to connect safely and securely via an FTP client too. With an SFTP connection, all of the files which you upload will go through an encrypted connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is included as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you can easily include it from the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. In any case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with just one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you will see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you could input the password that you'd like to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you can also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands that can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few instances. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this type of connections.
