Setting up a CNAME record for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you have in the hosting account will enable you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain address will lose all its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the Internet domain it's being directed to. In this light, you can't set up a CNAME record to forward your domain name to a third-party company and maintain a working e-mail service with the first hosting company. It is also very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is commonly confused with the A record of the domain name being redirected. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain you own through one company to the servers of another company assuming you have created a site with the latter. By doing this, the site will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.
CNAME Records in Web Hosting
Creating a CNAME record through our web hosting plans is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of easy steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you many options - if you set up a company website on our end, for example, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to create an Internet site through a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Managing DNS records usually seems a hard task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each semi-dedicated hosting plan we provide, is extremely easy to use. If you would like to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to choose the domain name or subdomain you need, choose the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is quite simple and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be completely active and within a couple of hours it is going to propagate all over the world. If you are not sure what you should do, we have prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located in that same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for assistance at any moment.
