The .SE country-code TLD was launched in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very limited number of domains were secured. Individuals could order no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish persons, businesses and organizations could acquire a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

Presently, anybody can obtain a dot SE name, which gives you the chance to reach the Swedish Internet community even if you do not have a local presence.
